Leadership Course

Leaders Can Change: lead the change your community needs

A leadership course for people leading refugee communities across the North East. Learn to advocate, run campaigns and lead others, so your community’s experience shapes the decisions that affect it.

About the programme

A leadership course built for the people already holding their communities together.

Refugee community leaders already carry deep knowledge of what their communities face. Leaders Can Change gives them the tools to turn that knowledge into influence: speaking up with evidence, organising campaigns that win, and building teams that last. You don’t need a title or a qualification. If people in your community come to you for help, information or a voice, this course is for you.

Our approach

Lived experience is where leadership starts.

At Dialogue Fosters, we believe real change happens with real stories. The course starts from what participants already know and builds the skills to put it to work with councils, services and decision-makers.

What you’ll learn

Three connected strands

Each strand builds on the one before. By the end, you’ll have a real advocacy or campaign plan for an issue your community faces.

📣

Advocacy

Understand who makes decisions and how. Tell your community’s story with evidence, and prepare for meetings with officials, councillors and service providers.

🚀

Campaigning

Choose a clear, winnable goal and plan a campaign step by step. Build alliances, mobilise people and use media and social media safely.

🤝

Leadership

Lead with your own values and story. Facilitate dialogue, handle conflict, build a team that lasts and look after yourself as a leader.

Who it’s for

Is this course for you?

  • Community leaders — people running refugee-led groups, associations and informal networks.
  • Emerging leaders — volunteers and organisers ready to take on a bigger role.
  • Lived experience — people whose own experience of displacement shapes how they want to lead.
  • Ready to act — anyone with an issue in their community they want to change.
What you’ll leave with

A plan, a network and the confidence to use them.

Participants finish the course with a practical advocacy or campaign plan, connections to other community leaders, and the skills to speak up for their communities with confidence.
