Biography

Jodie is a social scientist and higher education professional with over seven years’ experience in teaching and research, and more than eleven years in the Third Sector. Her academic background spans sociology, criminology and international development, with a particular interest in gender, violence, inequality and marginalisation.

She is currently completing doctoral research at SOAS University of London on sexual and gender-based violence in conflict settings, with a focus on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Her work brings together academic research and practical experience of working with diverse and marginalised communities, with a particular interest in the relationship between gender, identity and violence — including the ways misogynistic ideas are produced, reinforced and normalised through cultures and communities.

She contributes to training and education exploring incel culture, misogyny and related forms of gender-based hostility, focusing on the social, cultural and structural factors that underpin these issues and considering effective approaches to prevention, education and intervention.
