Biography

Abbie is a Lecturer in Social Sciences at the University of Sunderland, with a background in criminology and social research. Her academic work focuses on race, racism and ethnicity, with particular interests in racial inequality, mixed-race identity and belonging, intersectionality, and the experiences of marginalised communities.

Her research explores how racism and racialised narratives are produced, experienced and understood, both online and in everyday life. She is currently completing doctoral research at Northumbria University examining online white supremacist narratives and their potential influence on public perceptions of ethnic minority communities in the UK. Her wider research interests include racial discrimination, identity and belonging, online hate and extremism, and participatory and visual research methods.

Alongside her academic work, Abbie is involved in human rights education and advocacy. She volunteers with ReportOUT, supporting campaigning, training and podcasting, and is particularly interested in using education and research to challenge prejudice, amplify marginalised voices and contribute to more inclusive communities.
